Carrie-Ann Smith and Josh traveled from London to Golden Bay, Malta for a beach destination wedding among friends and loved ones. The pair tied the knot on the sand at Pebbles Beach Bar at the Radisson Blu Golden Sands after deciding to do something a bit different than the weddings they’d attended in the past. The couple shared their big day story with us:
We had been to a lot of weddings over the last couple of years and we wanted to do something a bit different. We also thought that going abroad would help cut down on numbers and therefore costs as weddings in the UK are very expensive. We also decided we would go travelling after our wedding and so thought it would be a great way to start the trip of a lifetime.
Our first holiday abroad together was to Malta. My Uncle, Dave, (Dave Pryde, Travel Counsellor), helped us choose Malta as he thought it would appeal to Josh with Malta’s rich history and to me with the great seafood and sunshine.
When we thought about getting married abroad Malta was our number one choice as we both loved the island and it was special to us. We went back for a weekend to visit possible wedding venues and choose the Radisson Blu at Golden Bay because of its great location and beautiful beach.
The couple opted for a first look since their wedding ceremony was so close to sundown: We would highly recommend this as it was a special and intimate moment away from the madness of the day. It also saved time after the ceremony. We had the photos taken next to one of the Maltese stone towers that are dotted around the island. I think our favourite pictures are from there; we were just so happy to see each other and the setting is fantastic as the tower is located on a cliff edge overlooking the Mediterranean.
The main focus was on the beach, we envisioned a romantic setting for the ceremony with a lovely sunset in the background followed by everyone in a more relaxed and informal environment dancing in their bare feet.
A funny memory from our ceremony was my nephew Daniel, who was our page boy, walked down the isle swinging the ring cushion in his hand, which had our rings tied to it! Thankfully they didn’t come loose and it definitely made us laugh a lot. Some friends even caught it on video.
The meal was served on the terrace overlooking the beach and the party was back down on the beach where the hotel team had set-up a dance area, sofas, beds, tables, a bonfire and the bar. The mother of the groom, Sally, hand made the table centre pieces which were material boxes decorated with a sunflower pattern. Inside the boxes we put photo props and a set of postcards that were to be used as the guest book. There were also some toys and colouring in for the children. Sally also made some lovely bunting that hung above the top table.
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
