Today’s shoot is a little something different. Taken in beautiful Tuscany, at the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, this bridal portrait session was a destination experience for one lucky bride. Katie and Phil were married six months earlier in Bluemont, Virginia but when the opportunity arose for Katie to put her dress back on, the obvious answer was yes!
We asked Katie how this shoot came to be. “I decided to do this shoot because when your dearest friend invites you to Montalcino, Italy on a photo shoot, you don’t turn her down! It was the best! I got to travel with a friend, see an incredible country, and get some pictures that I will cherish forever. I loved my wedding dress, and it took me a while to track it down in my size – I am so thankful I got to wear it when I married my best friend, and that I got to romp around Italy in it.”
And as for selecting the locations? “I have the best photographer. She sees potential and scenes and inspiration all over the place. My favorite thing is that she knows me well enough to know what suits me and how to capture me, in my element. She chose spots that I think were not only gorgeous landscapes, but they suited me. She captured me, being me. I think that is my favorite part of these portraits – they’re not just posed pictures, she captures moments of my life and my story. We shot in two different locations, and each were places we both saw and thought “THIS IS IT!” The first location was the Biondi-Santi Villas in Montalcino, Tuscany which is the property where we stayed for the week, and the second was The Abbey of Sant’Antimo. The location in front of the Monastery, we literally made our driver make a trek back and forth over a mountain a couple of times because we had to have photos there – I think he thought we were crazy. But you can see there was a method to our madness! The spot was just too perfect! Between the stone on the abbey, the incredible scenery, and the fields of red poppies, we couldn’t pass it up.”
Such a great idea to get moments without the stress of the wedding day schedule. And a great excuse to get away too!
Tips for other couples? “I’d suggest finding a photographer you love and trust and finding a place you’re comfortable. I’m all about pictures that capture you – Jessie couldn’t have done a better job at that! I’m thankful I have those memories captured in print.”
