Today’s beautifully colorful Indian wedding comes to us from Nassau in the Bahamas where popular wedding planner, Marva Munroe of Chic Bahamas Weddings created a beach look full of celebration and love. The couple, Preeti and Vik knew they wanted a beach wedding so the pair said “I do” at the Melia Resort after falling in love with the property. The couple shared their story with us:
We love traveling and always knew we wanted a beach wedding – Finding the beach took some time. The Bahamas was suggested by the groom’s parents. We took one look, fell in love and started planning right away.
The guests enjoyed 2 pre-wedding events: 1) Beach game day where the bride and grooms teams battled it out to win prizes -games included: Beach hot ball, bury the bride and groom, beach beer pong and a horse and jockey race). 2) Maiyan on the beach (cleansing and preparation ceremony). Both activities were a great way for everyone to meet and get to know each other in a relaxed way. We always held dinner every evening at the resort.
My maids wore Aqua coloured Sarees, which complimented the deeper teal shade of the best men’s Kurtas. The guests wore colourful Indian attire. The outfits stood out beautifully against the backdrop. We knew the background would do most of the work for us!
We opted for an understated minimal mid morning ceremony. I (The bride) wore a lavender bridal lehenga that I designed myself and had created in India. Vik wore a custom designed Sherwani in cream and gold.
We asked destination wedding planner Chic Bahamas Weddings to share a bit of the behind the scenes planning process with us as well.
The ceremony was a traditional Hindu one complete with traditions. An Indian Priest was a “must have” for the bride and groom. We flew in an Indian Priest from Miami, Florida to conduct the ceremony.
It was an absolute joy to work with this really sweet couple. The experience was quite an emotional and bittersweet one. Preeti’s mother suddenly passed away a few weeks prior to her wedding. This brought planning to a halt. The burial was delayed due to the temple not being available for several weeks. Once the funeral took place, Preeti was able to spare small blocks of time to communicate with me about her wedding. Her mother would have wished her to proceed with plans so we charged full speed ahead. Vik and Preeti arrived in Nassau from the UK. We reviewed all wedding plans. The wedding day arrived and everything proceeded flawlessly. Both Preeti and Vik were ever so gracious and kind. Through smiles with some sadness in her eyes, Preeti was stunning. Her family and friends cheered her, loved her and helped her through the day! I cried too … couldn’t help it … mom plays such an important role on a bride’s special day.
We often ask couples what their favorite moments from the day was. In this case, one such memory was during the ceremony.
Reading our Hindu wedding vows atop the beautiful white sand.
The evening reception was ‘black tie on the beach’. The decor was fresh and elegant with white linens and flowers with pops of red to compliment my red dress, Vik wore a cream dinner jacket with red bow tie and pocket square to match. The guests looked like superstars in their gowns and bow ties.
Chic Bahamas Weddings described it as:
Our black tie wedding on the sand was a simple and elegant one. The gorgeous attire that guests wore, the stunning bride’s red gown that she designed and wore all helped to create a glamorous look. We took advantage of the local space that was flanked by palm trees, added lighting, white dance floor and brought up the evening color of flowers to contrast with the pastel palette of the morning beach ceremony. The nighttime floral decor was created to reflect city elegance on the beach.
Another favorite moment for the couple was the bridesmaids’ surprise dance number during the reception and the reception in general – The black tie reception on the beach – everyone looked like stars!
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
