Sara-Lane and Stevie celebrated the start of their marriage with a beautiful Caribbean honeymoon on the island of St. Lucia. The couple shared with us how they selected this stunning tropical honeymoon destination and a bit about their vacation.
We selected St. Lucia as our honeymoon destination for a few reasons. First, we knew after having only 4 months to plan our wedding that we would want some major rest and relaxation on our honeymoon. We wanted to go out of the country, somewhere warm, with crystal clear water. After researching several different places all over the world, St. Lucia was pretty convenient as far as the travel route (no jet lag or really long flights) but was still far enough away to really unplug and experience a new culture. We stayed at a boutique resort called Cap Maison on the northern part of the island. We loved the contrast of the blue waters and sand with all the greenery, mountains, and hills of the island.
The resort we stayed at was suggested by our travel agent, Karen McAfee. She did an amazing job helping us book everything and we feel like we got a great deal. We can’t say enough nice things about Cap Maison – from the spa, to their resident cat, to the incredible food.
Our vision for our honeymoon was to be in an environment that had zero distractions and somewhere we could really unwind. After planning our wedding literally every spare moment for months, we were aware of the stress we were under and decided ahead of time that we had to escape somewhere to be rejuvenated and focus on celebrating our marriage.
This was my husband’s first time out of the country, so it was definitely a special trip for him. We planned it together, paid for it (with the help of his father) together – so a lot of work and intentionality went into the trip. It was easy to make it a personal one since it was our honeymoon. Being so secluded and having so much alone time to spend with each other, uninterrupted and away from all of the every day distractions was refreshing for our relationship.
Some of our favorite moments were laying down at Smuggler’s Cove on the beach, reading or talking. We also went snorkeling, neither of us had done that before, and we absolutely loved it. We got so (overly) excited about all the fish we saw.
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
