Malea and Eric wanted an intimate wedding and opted for a destination wedding on a somewhat remote island in the Caribbean to give them just that. The two tied the knot at the swanky Four Seasons Resort Nevis and Malea gave us a peek into their big day and how it came to be.
When we got engaged, we decided pretty quickly we wanted a small, intimate wedding with our closest friends and family. With that in mind, we wanted to select a destination that our guests could also spend a few extra days vacationing. Ultimately, we chose the remote West Indies island Nevis for its gorgeous beaches, quaint town, and Nevis Peak. But what really sold us on the secluded island was The Four Seasons Resort. We knew we could trust the long-standing, prestigious brand with our wedding and that it would be flawlessly executed. Not the mention, the grounds would be immaculate and the food would be top notch. Another key factor in our decision-making was that we didn’t want a bustling, tourist town with cruise ships flocking in every day. For us, it was about seclusion, uniqueness and the ability to create a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our guests.
When we officially selected Nevis as the destination, we knew the island scenery would be nothing short of amazing with breathtaking mountain views, panoramic multi-colored ocean and lush gardens. We didn’t want to compete with the natural surroundings, so we chose a neutral palette of tans and grays, with small pops of color in the floral arrangements and groomsmen’s ties and pocket squares to bring it all together.
Other than the actual exchanging of vows, there are a couple of moments that we relive regularly in complete awe. First, we strategically scheduled an “event” every day that guests were in Nevis. From the moment guests arrived, we wanted their experience to be as great as our own. On Thursday, we hosted a welcome celebration at the Resort with a full buffet dinner. Friday, guests were shuttled half way up Nevis Peak for a sunset rehearsal dinner at Golden Rock Inn, nestled in the jungle with sweeping views of the ocean. Saturday proved beautiful for our nuptials on the 18th green lawn, overlooking the ocean. And the finale included a half-day catamaran cruise complete with snorkeling adventures. The other moments that we constantly relive are the hours leading up to the wedding itself. We had a three-hour block of time that we spent with exclusively with our Details photographers, exploring the island with our wedding party. The photos and video captured the personality of our crew and in-the-moment experiences that would otherwise be lost over time.
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
