Krista and Sean said “I do” to a destination wedding in Tamarindo, Costa Rica with close friends and family by their side to celebrate. From British Columbia, Canada, the pair enlisted the help of Tropical Occasions to plan from afar. They selected Playa Avellanas as the place they would call home for their big day, after being together for ten years and engaged for five!
This wedding was truly a family affair – the couple’s two adorable kids were even part of the ceremony! Their first child’s name is Aviana – also the name of the beach where they wed!
This brightly colored wedding included a bride’s bouquet that was a mixture of “corals, pinks, & reds, created with a mix of roses, snapdragons, mokara orchids, cymbidium orchids, Lisanthus, and lambs ear.”
We often ask the couple what their favorite moments from the day was. For Krista, “I’m pretty sure my favorite part of the day, although there are many, was when the kids walked down the aisle. I had wanted them to come down after my dad and me, so I could see them and not miss out on that moment. I’m so glad we did it this way. I managed to relax, smile and laugh a bit after the emotional part of walking down the aisle. To see them and us together, this beautiful family, it was something special. Even though traditionally we were not your typical family, and did everything a bit backwards, in that moment it never felt so right. I know this is a moment we both will cherish.”
The couple grew up riding horses, so what would be their wedding without one for them and the kids!?
The bride wanted a wedding that was “romantic meets country chic (they are cowboys at heart and wanted their upbringing in the feel of wedding) and a dash of beachy bohemian.” Mission accomplished!
Wedding photographers, A Brit & A Blonde, told us more about the beautiful decor. “Showcasing the beautiful wood found all throughout Costa Rica was big for Krista. Beautiful exposed teak wooden tables were used with a lace runner for a dash of the romantic. Vases and Stemware all had a sea glass tinting which gave it a beachy feel.”
For napkins, Tropical Occasions sourced a variety of Indian sarees and had them cut into cloth for the tables!
“We adore the hot sauce idea which doubled as a gift for the guests as well as a place card. The hot sauces are made a local in the Tamarindo area and the name card hearts were a little DIY project made from extra invitations Krista had on hand.”
