Brendan and Bec came all the way from Sydney, Australia to Palm Springs, CA for their colorful destination elopement in the desert. The couple shared with us their favorite moments of the intimate big day and how it all came to be.
We decided to elope to celebrate our ten-year anniversary together. It was a private event and we wanted to combine the elopement with a road trip around California. We set out with the principle that we would plan our elopement as if it was the best date we could ever design. We wanted somewhere that was going to be fun and chic, in a beautiful location. Palm Springs ticked all the boxes.
There are no dress rehearsals in an overseas elopement. So you just need to go with the flow and set the right expectations. For us it was to have fun with each other. My hair, make-up and bouquet were all just what happened on the day. In our opinion everything worked out perfectly, but that was because our main objective was to have fun, rather then meet some pre-designed expectation about what a perfect wedding looked like.
A favorite moment for the couple?
Watching the sunset against the mountains after the ceremony. It was beautiful, the company was perfect and the champagne was sweet.
Set realistic expectations about what you can achieve. There will be trade-offs with how you plan things, how you want things to look and feel and who can come. At the end of the day you choose a destination wedding because you want an adventure and adventures are meant to be full of surprises and the unexpected.
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
