Today we’re taking a look back at one of my favorite events from last year – and somehow it’s taken me this long to share it…good things come to those who wait I guess! I’ll start by setting the scene, in Riviera Maya, Mexico. There’s a compound of sorts in the area called Mayakoba, complete with four luxury hotel properties, beautiful beaches, a wedding chapel and shopping square, and even waterways that you can travel on by boat. The cornerstone of Mayakoba is arguably, Rosewood Mayakoba, a fantastic resort that could not be more perfect for a destination wedding. You can get married on the sand, dance under the stars, and do everything you might come to expect at a destination wedding in Mexico. But that’s not the best part. It’s those unexpected elements that stand out most to me, and one of those is an event space known as La Ceiba. It’s an herb garden, completely enclosed by fencing and complete with an outdoor kitchen for dining al fresco. I was lucky enough to attend a dinner in La Ceiba and while most couples find it to be perfect for a rehearsal dinner, I found it to be so magical, it’s worthy of a destination wedding no matter where in the world you’re coming from. One of my favorite things at a wedding is when the culinary experience is interactive. In this herb garden, you get just that. We were served up speciality cocktails upon arrival and invited to dress them up however we saw fit, with fresh herbs all around us that we could pick and put in our drinks! What a fun way to start a cocktail hour!
The talented Vanessa Jaimes Floral Design enhanced the outdoor space just right – it doesn’t need much with its already natural beauty, but with her attention to detail, the look was finished flawlessly.
Just as special as the location was the meal! Oh the dinner! We feasted on their traditional La Ceiba dinner which included local favorites from Mayan kitchens and freshly caught fish from the sea. Rosewood Mayakoba not only makes for a wonderful backdrop for a destination wedding, they create an unforgettable dining experience too!
