Destination Wedding in Majorca, Spain

Mark and Merriah wed on the popular Spanish island of Majorca, in the Mediterrean Sea.  This locale had special meaning to the couple before their big day.  Merriah shared with us; Before Mark and I met he had planned a ski trip through the alps called the Haute Route (starting in Chamonix, France and Zermatt, ending in Switzerland)  it was 8-10 days of skiing (mostly uphill climbing) with stays in huts with no running water along the way.  He had the desire to relax after that trip and chose a small town in Mallorca (or Majorca) because of a postcard a friend had sent from there years ago.  We met about 5 weeks prior to his trip and it was truly a case of love at first sight.  We had an amazing start to our relationship so we decided it made sense for me to join on the Mallorca part of his trip.  We stayed in the amazing town of Deia…and all I can say is our short trip was completely magic.  We fell deeply in love with each other and the place and said if we ever got married it would be in that town.”  And so they did.

The event was intimate but shared with friends and family globally.  “We had 28 guests come to Spain and felt very blessed.  Some of our closest friends and family couldn’t make it but they were there in spirit and we streamed the wedding live from an IPhone.”

The couple wed at the La Residencia Hotel where things went smoothly, but not before a few small hiccups along the way.  “Our original photographer was a professional in our family who told us a few months prior he couldn’t make the trip.  We fell in love with Stephanie Haller’s photos after a friend’s wedding.  It’s funny because I really connected with Stephanie as her style fit my husband’s request for candid vs posed photos.  We were so fortunate that Stephanie was willing to come to Spain with us.  She was the perfect choice!  We also had a challenge finding someone to perform the ceremony in Spain.  My husband’s father ended up getting certified to perform the ceremony for us and it was more perfect than I could have wished for.  Otherwise we had a wonderful wedding coordinator at the La Residencia Hotel that couldn’t have made things easier for us planning a Spanish wedding from the US.  It was a fairy tale wedding.”

An outdoor garden setting was the perfect setting to say “I do” on this beautiful island.

Picking a place with meaning makes for all the more special of a wedding day and this certainly rang true for this couple.  “Walking through the cobblestone streets of a beautiful Spanish town in perfect weather with champagne for pictures was very special.  We got to relive some of our favorite memories of our first trip through the pictures that day.”

As the sun began to set, guests gathered under large umbrellas for an al fresco feast.

Local flavors, foods and wine were infused into this newlyweds’ meal.

The bride and groom opted for an orange and white palette for their decor and details, which blended in nicely with their surroundings.  But this event wasn’t about flowers – it was about fun.  They wanted their guests to experience a laid back event with five star service.

From day to night, the orange and white palette became the backdrop for some very romantic candlelight surrounding the guests and adorning each table.

In addition to a beautiful wedding, Mark and Merriah have a love story that is not only beautiful but shows us what fate in action looks like.  They crossed paths on more than one occasion before a relationship blossomed which later lead to a sweet proposal.  “Mark and I met in a bar in the neighborhood we both lived in at the time in Seattle. Yes, sometimes meetings in bars do work out :)  It’s funny because Mark lived in San Francisco but moved before I arrived to live there.  He then lived in Boise and moved right before I moved to Boise.  And then we both lived in the same apartment building in Seattle at different times.  It was as though we were meant to meet but not until the time was right.  The night we met he says he was walking out and saw me walk in and turned around.  I say I saw him across the room and felt an amazing chemistry.  It was such a powerful, amazing introduction.  We fall in love with each other more every day.  We got engaged about a year and a half later in Cannon Beach, Oregon at sunset…him on one knee and me feeling like the luckiest girl in the world.”

And clearly when the wedding day finally came, good times were had by all!

 Congratulations Mark and Merriah!
