Rustic Chic Destination Wedding in Germany

Katherine and Christoph wed in Freiburg, Germany, a place near to Christoph’s upbringing and a town with beautiful buildings, something that was important to the pair. The bride shared their story with us: Being the architect/engineer couple, we first met at The Empire State Building in New York City… Our first few dates consisted of visiting buildings on Yale’s campus in New Haven and a color photography exhibition at The Whitney Museum because I found out that Christoph was part colorblind. To me that was very interesting and I wanted to know which spectrum of colors he could not see clearly. Throughout the past six years, we have had many challenges that have brought us closer together and made our relationship stronger. After years of long distance from: New york – Uzbekistan, New York – Stuttgart, New York – Hong Kong, we somehow managed to make it through and hope that our experiences will help us as we embark on the next chapter of our lives together.

We are an architect/engineer pair, so for us the building and the environment was very important. As Christoph is from the Black Forest, we chose the Henslerhof for its architectural history, beautiful setting and its proximity to his home. The Henslerhof was built in 1552 in Black Forest barn house style “Schwarzwaldhof” and it represented Christoph’s home.

The inspiration of the decor was The Black Forest Barn. We very much wanted our wedding to be local and personal so we could share Christoph’s home with our overseas friends and family. Katherine is a very DIY hands-on person, so we made most of the decorations ourselves.

Our favorite moment was really every moment of it but if we really had to choose, it would be the coffee and cakes time where we had a little time to really sit down and chat with our loved ones.

We asked the couple for advice for other destination wedding couples: Try to take it one task at a time and take it easy as there will be things that will go wrong, but don’t try too hard to avoid it, just try to embrace it!  No matter what happens, it will be an amazing day.

Congratulations to the newlyweds!
