Grand Cayman Wedding Shoot

Starfish Point weddingA destination wedding often means ample time at a unique and picturesque setting and hopefully with a destination wedding photographer in tow.  So why not take advantage of that time (and team) and get the most out of your locale?  A “day after” wedding shoot is becoming increasingly popular.  It’s when the newlyweds and photographer get out and about for a day of fun and photos without the stress of a timeline and pressure of the ceremony.  Destination weddings are the PERFECT time and place for a “day after” shoot!  Get out and see the island, take time away just for the two of you to sightsee, really enjoy your environment and marvel at all that’s around you.  And while you’re at it, why not ask your photographer to capture it all?  That’s exactly what we did with today’s inspiration photo shoot.Starfish point weddingsWhen we jetted off to the Cayman Islands a few weeks back for the Engage!11 conference, we thought why not take advantage of the stunning setting and put together a day after adventure!?!  So today and tomorrow, you’ll see what our fantastic team came up with.  The setting – a dreamy day out on the Cayman Elusion, a Cayman Luxury Charter (the perfect way to get away the day after your “I do’s”).  The stops – Starfish Point, a secluded beach where starfish are in abundance and Stingray City – a sandbar off the island where dozens of stingrays congregate.  Our plan was to capture those more casual bride and groom shots once the wedding was done and end the day with a very brave and adventurous trash the dress session, with stingrays and all!  Our models, Dave and Cristin (Cristin was Miss Cayman Islands 2010) were so amazing, we were so lucky to get to work with them!  And of course it didn’t hurt that we had the fabulous adventure-seeking destination wedding photographer, Laura Grier of Beautiful Day Photography to capture it all!wedding at Starfish Point, Cayman IslandsCristin wore a beautiful dress by Kirstie Kelly (chiffon flows perfectly in a windy locale and made for some great shots floating in the water).  Her look, paired with the neutral suit worn by Dave and the white sands and crystal clear water nearby made the colors of the sky and trees around really pop.  Her bouquet incorporated local flowers and even shells from the island, and was created by the talented local Cayman team at Celebrations.Cayman Islands Starfish PointWe had the best time out on the ocean and at the beach for this shoot!  Imagine getting away from it all after the wedding and taking some time just for two, yet you’re back by dinner to continue the celebration with friends and family still on island!Starfish Point Grand Cayman weddingYou can even get a little cheeky…here Dave and Cristin channeled their inner music video divas as they headed back to the boat by Sea-Doo.wedding in the Cayman IslandsWhile you’re out for the day, keep in mind you might just find the perfect Christmas or holiday card photo or the ideal thank you photo for the many thanks you’ll be sending to those who traveled near and far to be with you on your big day.  If you plan ahead and bring a sign or prop or two, you’ll have that much more to work with when planning out your stationery when you touch down back at home.  Just remember to have fun with it, whatever you do!!  This is after all, the day after…no pressure, just fun and time together out of the hotel to see what your chosen destination has to offer.wedding signsStay tuned tomorrow for photos of the grand finale – Christin and Dave dive in with the stingrays!

And a big hug and giant thanks to the amazing professionals who produced this fantastic day!  Crystal Blue Weddings, the go-to for all things Cayman weddings organized an epic on island team!!   And thanks to those from the states who packed up their gear and goods and joined forces with the amazing local companies.  Such a fun day!
