Romana and Mariano celebrated their nuptials in a beach wedding in Los Cabos, Mexico, with 50 friends and family from all over the world. Mariano is an architect from Mexico City and Romana is a writer, photographer, and digital strategist from Slovenia who had traveled to Los Cabos one of their first vacations together, so it became the perfect place for their wedding. The bride shared their story with us.
As a Slovenian, a beach wedding was something we always admired from the magazines and movies, but I never imagined I’d get married at the beach. It seemed just a very nice fantasy. We wanted to celebrate our love with the closest family and friends, and an intimate beach wedding was also probably the best reason to bring my parents and European friends to Cabo for the first time.
We got married at Zacatitos beach in San Jose del Cabo – this was the area where Mariano used to take me when I first came to visit Los Cabos. The ceremony was set up at a beautiful private empty beach in Zacatitos, and wedding reception was held at a private villa in Laguna Hills, owned by our friends. The house won a Silver medal in Mexican Bienalle for architecture, designed by Colectivo MX.
My bouquet was beautiful! It had white anemone with blue/black centre, accompanied with small white roses and Baja inspired greens. The anemones flower is said to have sprung from the tears of Greek goddess of love and the design of my dress, by Slovenia designer Uros Belantic, had Grecian style. My flower crown completed the look.
Our color palette was Baja inspired with white flowers, greens and with accents of gold and red with hand blown hearts.
The decor was Baja inspired. Our wedding rental and wedding flowers company The Main Event Cabo used the branches of typical Baja torote /elephant trees, adorned with white roses and greens. We had two arches, one as an entrance to the ceremony, and one as a chuppa. We used wooden benches for sitting. Elephant tree branches with greens were also placed on both sides of the isle. To us it was a very romantic setup, beautiful and private, connected to the beach and to Baja.
A highlight? Our golden retriever Zlatka being with us the entire time through the ceremony.
One of Mexico’s top Mixologists Osvaldo Vazquez created a special cocktail just for us. He named it Romarian, and it includes Mezcal and Gin, Bitter and Barrel bitter, dried rose, and cucumber. Our guests and we loved it!
The decor was white linens with white and gold otomi tablecloths and runners, gold chairs. Dinnerware was glass with gold rims, provided by Lazy Gourmet Catering & Events. Flowers were white with greens. Hand blown hearts were placed above the plates of each guest with their name tag. Floating flower beds were placed on the pool, together with floating candles. More candles were around the pool area and dance floor.
As an accent and a wedding favor we added red hand blown Mexican glass hearts. Each guest received one, and we also used them to decorate an elephant tree at the entrance of the villa.
We created the menu ourselves with our favorite dishes from Mexico; empanadas with zucchini flower, sashimi, chiles en nogada, fresh fish with Baja organic veggies, chicken in mole sauce, salad with nopal (cactus), churros… Lazy Gourmet Catering did an amazing job in preparing the dishes and presentation.
Our wedding cake was beautiful and delicious. It was red velvet with white and gold coating. We had churros as well.
Advice for other destination wedding couples? I think the best idea is not to try to do it all yourself. Hire professionals that will help you plan, create and capture your best day. We couldn’t have done it all without our planners, decorators, florists, catering and photographers. The photographs are making us relive our best day every time we look at the photos, it’s priceless!
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
