Julie and Todd said “I do” at a tropical destination wedding in Maui, a place the two had experienced together. Julie tells us, “We went there together for the first time. All of our experiences on that island were ours!”
The couple had met back in high school, but it wasn’t that first connection that sealed the deal. They met once at a tailgate party during school, but it was another tailgate party three years later that connected the couple for life. Clearly this union was meant to be!
And then it was time to plan their picture-perfect destination wedding in Hawaii! Jennifer Taylor, the couple’s destination wedding planner from Taylor’d Events, explains how this idyllic location came to be for the couple. “There was just something about the waves crashing on the black rock and the view of Lanai and Molokai that solidified that the ceremony spot was ‘the one.’ In fact, the area we selected at the hotel felt like a private lawn with a dramatic backdrop for guests to enjoy.”
Jennifer also shared how the bride’s beautiful bouquet came to be. “When Julie came to me she wanted help with floral, we had gone through photos and she found one that was very vivid, like what you see, but she wanted her bouquet to be very soft and romantic, so quite the difference, but I think it totally speaks to what she is, very vibrant and fun, but soft and romantic at the same time.”
The event had lots of location specific and Hawaiian wedding details too. The bride even surprised her groom with a hula dance after secretly taking lessons before the big day!
For favors, the groom made the boxes, which were each filled with Hawaiian phrases in both Hawaiian and English. We love it when a groom gets involved and this is certainly an amazingly hands-on guy!
The couple’s favorite moments from the day? “It was all a very memorable day. I think we both remember ever single person who attended because we were able to interact with everyone.”
After all the planning was said and done, the bride learned a lot along the way. Her advice? To select a destination wedding planner in your own time zone who is versed in your destination, versus selecting one in the destination you’ll be traveling to. She also suggests considering lots of options when selecting that perfect place to wed around the globe!
