A Vintage Inspired Destination Wedding in Italy

destination wedding in Marostica, Italy

Brianna and Christian wed at the stunning and historic Villa Sesso Schiavo in Marostica, Italy.  But this was no random selection.  The town of Marostica was the place that Christian’s mom grew up in and the same location his parents were married thirty years ago!  In fact, Brianna and Christian even took a few photos outside that very church.

The bride wore a jaw-dropping wedding dress by Johanna Johnson.

Brianna gave us a look inside their special day.  I loved the fact we could find a beautiful ancient villa which set the mood for the whole day, not to mention we were able to get married in a castle!! The backdrop was just breath-taking. I wanted a vintage, intimate, elegant feel with lots of history, something which was so easy to do in Italy.”

“We chose to get married in Italy because we liked the idea of following their footsteps. It also made the usual one crazy wedding day last over a few weeks. We loved the history they gave our wedding, we were able to use one Christians Nonno’s cars (he has passed away, so this meant he was part of the day). This was the car Christian’s parents also had as their wedding car.”

“All of Paolas family still live in Marostica and the neighbouring town Bassano Del Grappa, by bringing the wedding to them meant they go to be a big part of our day. They wouldn’t have been able to come otherwise. Importantly to the both of us this meant Christian Nonna, was able to be there.”

The design?  “A lux Modern twist on 1920’s 1930’s 1940’s, classic elegance. Fitting for the 1570’s built villa sesso schiavo where we held the reception, which in its self was rich in history, people, culture and traditions.”

“Including lots of family was important to us; I wore my grandmother’s medallion on my dress as she passed away 2 years ago. Everyone was in such a good mood, which isn’t when they are on holidays?! By making our wedding a holiday it became something different and made it so much more memorable for everyone who came. Everyone was so excited about it all and the lead up to the big day was all part of the excitement. There were 22 Australians who made the journey over. My parents and brother were also there and loved being part of our new big Italian family. They had never been to Europe and were even more excited than we were!”

This couple, clearly skilled at throwing parties, had a fun engagement event too!  “Christian proposed on his 30th birthday. I had chosen the ring and he had been holding onto it for the past 4 months. He had a circus inspired dress up party with jumping castles, mechanical bulls, dunking machines, clowns, facing painting, fairy floss and every other carnival ride you can think of. A true circus. It was during speeches, he was dressed up like a clown, wig and all, got down on one knee and in front of everyone asked me to marry him!”
