Sabrina and Ryan met on a cruise ship they were both working on at the time. Ryan tells us about their first encounter that ultimately lead them down the aisle in Uruguay! “We used to walk passed each other every now and then, but I could never stop her to talk as she was always walking like a ferrari. It was in a costume party that I had my first “approach.” That night at the end of the party, I knew I had to make a move, or say something, so I said: “what are the chances that you would go for me?” and she replied: “what’s the point, I have to leave in 2 days time”. Then it hit me, she was signing off the ship, and I probably would never see her again. So the next day, I was in my cabin, and the phone rings. I answer, and Anna (Sabrina´s roommate) says: “Sabrina says you should come out with us tonight”, to which I replied in exactly 0.6 split seconds: “yeah sure, let me know, and I will be there”. That night, which was Sabrina´s last night on the cruise ship, we finally got swept off our feet in one of the stops the ship did in Rio de Janeiro were we hung out with two other friends. At first we thought that night was going to be the last one… but it didn´t, destiny (and our will!) made that we meet again in Uruguay. That evening was the beginning of our unfogettable adventure that first took us to Argentina, then South Africa, and now finally to Uruguay.”
So needless to say, picking their destination wedding location would be a worldly task. “We were looking for the best sunset in South America to share with family & friends from South Africa, Scotland, Brazil, and Norway. We loved the idea of having a wedding on the beach in front of our friends and family.” And this was it!
Sabrina wore a vintage wedding gown that flowed in the coastal breeze as the duo road in on an ATV to their ceremony (a surprise to their guests as apparent by all the photos being snapped up)!
What a sophisticated way to celebrate with a small guest count – everyone in white! “We had 2 days of storms before the wedding, but we had “faith” that we would have a beautiful day. It turned out to be blue skies with a beautiful gazebo on the beach and the ultimate cremony with all our guests dressed in white.”
When we asked the groom what his most memorable moment was, he admitted to being a little eager to get to kiss the bride! “Most memorable was kissing Sabrina before she said I do…. I was so eager and got the timing wrong :)”
The reception took place in the estate of Playa VIK, a wonderfully modern and artfully designed backdrop to enjoy the evening within.
For the decor? Long tables with white paper and floral details. “We loved the idea of a “beach theme” that would be elegant and portray a clean & fresh feel.” Mission accomplished!
We’re loving these napkin treatments – each place setting has a different piece of the puzzle, that together say a sweet sentiment of love.
“Following the ceremony we had a traditional Uruguayan BBQ on the terrace, while overlooking an unforgettable sunset. Timeless.”
At the time, the bride and groom were living in Buenos Aires, Argentina but they have since moved to Jose Ignacio, Uruguay – to make the location even more special, fifty of their loved ones got to see where they would later settle down post “I do.”
After dinner, guests retired to the fire pit to enjoy the evening air and great company. Looks like a wonderful time was had by all! Congratulations Sabrina and Ryan!
