Caroline and Michael wed just after New Year’s, on Jan. 3rd in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The couple wanted to find a spot that was affordable for guests and a place all wanted to visit. Add in the warm weather and tropical destination requirements the bride and groom had and they said “I do” at the all-inclusive Ocean Blue and Sand Resort. The property made planning the wedding a breeze by providing all the local wedding professionals and details needed to wed there. Though many of those details weren’t decided upon until arrival for the wedding!! Photography being so important to the couple, they did bring one professional from the states with them, Andy Stenz.
Caroline shared with us her inspiration for the vibrant color palette they chose. “I knew I wanted to incorporate turquoises and blues in the theme of the wedding. We didn’t want an ultra casual feel, but I couldn’t request that the groomsmen purchase suits, so I got their pant sizes and shirt sizes and found some nice tan dress pants and light blue dress shirts. I also found (after a lot of searching) the perfect ties (in my eyes). I knew I wanted some type of pattern incorporating blues and turquoises, but didn’t know exactly until I found it. My favorite was the argyle socks and my blue shoes. I was also extremely excited when I found the argyle socks at The Gap in the same colors! This coordinated with my blue shoes (something blue) and made for our adorable feet shot. The blue, turquoise and silver in the bridesmaids’ necklaces also helped tie everything together.”
We love first look photos – so much excitement and anticipation and this couple was no exception! What joy!
The ceremony was set outside in the Caribbean sun under a beautiful gazebo on the resort property. The white wood blended to be the perfect backdrop for this festive blue and yellow event!
The reception then moved guests indoors to the restaurant for dinner and dancing.
For the bride, the paper details were an important part of the design. “I loved the sand bottles designating table numbers for guests to sit at. This idea was inspired from Martha Stewart, but I added my graphic design skills by incorporating interesting typography for each name. The type treatment and paper was carried through in everything from the invitations, programs, sand bottles, table numbers, favors and thank you cards.”But one of the most fun elements of this wedding weekend wasn’t even the big day itself! Shortly after, the bride and groom dared to bare their wedding attire…in the ocean! A beautiful trash the dress (and suit) session went underway shortly before sunset. It looks like Caroline and Michael had a blast getting wet with photographer Andy Stenz nearby to capture it all!
